Leah Bullen’s works investigate intersections between art history and the reproduced and photographic images through which experience the world at large. Her interest is centred around the ‘slippage’ that occurs between reproduced images and the independent reality of the painterly world.
Many of her paintings contemplate human vulnerabilities, particularly the human body. Each painting can be viewed as a combination of photographic images, historical paintings and observations in the studio.
